Dodge future products: Caliber replacement will test Fiat alliance & Other Chrysler Product News.

By now you’ve heard that Dodge will be getting a new compact sedan to replace the Dodge Caliber in the 2013 model year.  What you may not know is this will be the first vehicle made by Chrysler and FIAT that is expected to highlight the best of both auto giants.

Sources say this Caliber replacement sedan will be built on a FIAT platform and have a high mileage FIAT designed engine.  It will also be adapted for the North American market.

Chrysler execs hope that this sedan will establish Dodge as a player in the smaller, compact car class.  This is something that Chrysler is currently lacking in.

Speaking of Dodge vehicles, The Dodge Avenger is scheduled to be replaced by a mid-sized sedan based on FIAT’s CUSW platform.  Its replacement is slated to be the first vehicle that will use Chrysler’s nine speed automatic transmission.

According to sources, there are no major renovations being done to the 2012 Dodge Challenger.  On the other hand, the 2012 Dodge Charger is expected to receive an eight – speed automatic transmission.  Reports state that this new transmission and the Pentastar V6 engine will reduce fuel consumption.    If you’re an SRT fan, you won’t have to wait long to check out the 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8!  It is rumored to be released during the third quarter of 2011.

Dodge Viper fans get ready to rumble – we mean that literally.  The 2013 Dodge Viper is scheduled to launch late next year.  According to Ralph Gilles, “Customers will be given plenty of options to customize their Vipers.”  Are you ready for this?  This car will have a monstrous v10 engine.  See, we told you to get ready to rumble :-D

Moving on, It is rumored that the number one selling minivan of maybe all time the Dodge Grand Caravan and its ultra-elite cousin the Chrysler Town and Country will be meshed into a crossover.

As of December 2011, the Dodge Nitro will be no more.  On the other hand, the highly sought after Dodge Durango will remain pretty much the same as it currently is except for the possible addition of a new eight speed automatic transmission.  Expect the Jeep Grand Cherokee to get the same transmission.

“Chrysler now has people in charge who have gasoline coursing through their veins.”

Can you imagine driving a Jeep with a top speed of 256 km/h?  Not that we’re saying you should.  The point is, when the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is released you will be able to.  This is due to the “gear heads” who are now designing for and in charge of the Sport and Racing Technology (SRT) brand at Chrysler.

In an effort to be taken seriously by critics, competitors and consumers, Chrysler Group has turned to a group of “Gearheads” who live, breathe, and live the SRT vision.

145,000 SRT-branded vehicles have been sold since 1992.  Many believed the glory days of the Sports and Technology brand were long gone.  This could not be further from the truth.  Now with SRT brand CEO Ralph Gilles leading the helm, the SRT brand is making an octane fuelled comeback.

Gilles contends that, “SRT vehicles are very profitable and they are an entry point for customers who might never enter Chrysler otherwise. Performance is a constant. Technology finds a way to make SRT-like products compatible with the current social climate.”
